Mark Byrne, Founder & President

In 2004, Mr. Byrne founded PriMedicus Development, a successful professional services firm focused on life sciences business development.  Mark Byrne is an experienced life-sciences business leader with competency in leadership, general management, product and business development. He has direct experience identifying successful new growth opportunities, preparing winning NIH grant proposals, developing technology, negotiating business transactions, planning and executing mergers and acquisitions, obtaining financing and managing product teams. He has noteworthy ability to build opportunities that bridge technology development, clinical practice, business management and customer needs.

Additionally, he currently serves part-time as the interim CEO of AssureRx LLC, a business commercializing pharmacogenetics technology licensed from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and other sources. Mark has led AssureRx from an out-licensing idea through a seed stage company raising capital from both angel investors and venture capital sources.

Previously Mr. Byrne was President and CEO of CardioEnergetics, Inc., a seed-stage medical device company developing treatments for congestive heart failure. As CEO he was responsible for developing and executing company plans and strategies, business and technology development, and financing.

Prior to joining CardioEnergetics, Mr. Byrne spent 9 years at Johnson and Johnson in a variety of business and product development leadership roles. He started his career working in research at Battelle Memorial Institute and holds engineering degrees with honors from the University of Dayton and The Ohio State University. He has seven issued U.S. Patents, others pending and is co-author on several journal articles and scientific posters.

Jon Brophy, Business Development Manager

In May of 2006, Mr. Brophy joined PriMedicus Development as a manager specializing in medical device intellectual property and business development services.  His experience includes: patent portfolio management, intellectual property strategy development, freedom to operate and product clearance review, grant proposal generation, grant writing and intellectual property landscape review.

Previously, Mr. Brophy spent 8 years at Johnson and Johnson in various assignments including leading the patent estate and technically leading a product development team.   Prior to J&J, Jon has been an instructor and researcher at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, an avionics manager for the US Navy, a software engineer, and a patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Mr. Brophy graduated from Duke University with a bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine with a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering.
